One teenager is dead and two are injured after a shooting near a playground Monday night, and police are now investigating

The deceased, a 15-year-old boy, was playing in a community basketball league at a playground at 61st Street and Baltimore Avenue. He left the park, andwas walking away with a group of other boys, police told NBC10. About a block from the playground, an unidentified gunman stepped out of an alleyway and fired several shots.

The 15-year-old boy was shot in the face and transported to Penn Presbyterian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after midnight. Two other boys, ages 14 and 16, were also struck. They were taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Authorities told NBC10 that the shooting might have stemmed from an altercation during a community basketball gamelast week that involved the 15-year-old, but they have not confirmed if a motive in the shooting is related to that.
