19-year-old man is in critical condition after shooting near Temple University

A 19-year-old man is in critical condition after he was shot in the back Saturday night just blocks away from Temple University’s main campus, police said.

The man, who has not been identified, is not thought to be a student, according to an alert sent from the university.

The shooting occurred around 11 p.m. on the 1000 block of West Norris Street, near Warnock Street, police said.

The man, who was found bloddied several blocks away on the 2100 block of North Percy Street, said he planned to meet a woman on Norris Street and while he was walking heard someone yell from behind him. As he turned around, a man standing in street opened fire, according to police.

After the man was wounded, he ran to Percy Street to call police.

He was taken to Temple University Hospital for treatment.

Police said no suspects are in custody, and the investigation continues.
