76ers compete vs. NBA opponents despite youth, Tony Wroten trade rumors

The 76ers have played 34 games.They’ve won five.

The Sixers have featured 11 undrafted players on their roster, which is the youngest group in the history of the NBA.

There could be more undrafted players by the end of the 2014-15 season.

When the season finally concludes, they could wind up with the fewest wins in league history. They hold the dubious mark with a 9-73 record in 1972-73.

Positive vibes and momentum will come, albeit in short spurts.

Through it all, the players remain focused on the future.

“You know, it’s easy to get down and get frustrated, but we don’t,” said promising second-round draft pick K.J. McDaniels. “We keep working. We believe in coach (Brett) Brown and the organization. We know we have a tough challenge every night we step on the court. We just keep working and putting in the time on the court. We’re all in this together.”

Players have come and gone since training camp.

Tony Wroten could be the next player traded as rumors have swirled linking him with the Los Angeles Clippers.

But the games must go on and the Sixers will keep trotting out players.

At times, the fans will be rewarded like they were in Monday’s thrilling three-point win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Other times — many other times – it will be one frustrating night after another.

When you’ve won just five times in 34 games, that’s enough proof.

“We try to stay as positive as possible around here,” said Robert Covington, who has given the Sixers a nice lift since joining the team. “We come to work and put in the hours. We have a whole group of young players who are hungry. We love the game. It’s always been a dream of mine to be in the NBA. I’m in it for as long as possible.”

There will continue to be potholes.

The Sixers are just 1-15 at the Wells Fargo Center.

With a total of nine home games in January, there will be other chances.

Occasionally, the hard work will pay off.

“Look at the ages and the roster we have,” Brown said. “We’re just thrilled to come in and get a win and play the way we played (against the Cavaliers).”

These young players will play hard. They want to remain in the league.

“We want to give the fans reason to cheer because they’ve been so incredible,” Covington said. “They’re behind us no matter what. It’s amazing to see.”
