Rainy weather and fire and alcohol bans are being credited for a relatively quiet long weekend throughout the province.
RCMP spokesperson Patrick Webb said the official stats have yet to be tallied, but reports from throughout Alberta indicated campers were fairly tame.
“The weekend has been relatively quiet. Certainly the weather had a large part to play in that,” said Webb. “We did have some instances of people lighting fires, we had some people with alcohol in parks with alcohol bans but relatively speaking, they were very low numbers and we got pretty good co-operation out of people.”
Calgarian Steve Robson decided to head to Gull Lake with his family for their inaugural trip in their new trailer and said despite the bans, campers were out in full force.
Robson said the campground was full but added, “It was very quiet where we were.”
With no booze and no campfires, Robson said they spent their evenings playing cards with friends in the trailer, but the weekend was still enjoyable.
“It was good,” he said “It’s what people do on the long weekend.”
