Are Sixers close to naming new sideline princess?

After Meredith Marakovits pulled the reverse Cliff Lee on Philly fans, spurning the Sixers and taking her talents to the Yankees, the city’s pro basketball team (and I use that term loosely right now) might be set to announce her replacement.

Early Wednesday, Sixers CEO Adam Aron basically spilled the beans via Twitter that the new sideline reporter would make her debut Friday night.

We couldn’t confirm anything official, but our sources tell us that Sammy Linebaugh is a strong candidate to replace Marakovits. A quick Google search brought back the results: Sammy Linebaugh wiki, Sammy Linebaugh mormom, Sammy Linebaugh utah — and a few pictures of the attractive blonde. You can follow her on Twitter @sammylinebaugh.

Her bio tells us that Sammy is an Emmy award-winning reporter who got her TV start in Salt Lake City. She has covered a variety of sports, including the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. She now hosts The NEW College Football Show on Fox Sports South. Read full bio here.

Fun fact … Linebaugh played semi-pro soccer; she was the first girl to play full-contact football in the state of Utah; and holds a Masters degree from Harvard University.

Attractive and brainy?

Wow. It won’t be long before she is taking over the Phillies beat from Leslie Gudel.

We’ll keep an eye on any breaking news on the Sixers sideline princess situation …
