Authorities searching fire scene for bodies in West Philadelphia

Fire officials are investigating a blaze that reportedly killed a woman in the Belmont section of West Philadelphia.

Flames engulfed the second and third floors of a home on the 4100 block of Pennsgrove Street around 3:30 p.m. and was under control within a half hour, Executive Chief Richard Davison said.

One adult woman was taken to a local hospital in unstable condition. Fire personnel received reports of additional people in the building and are currently investigating the scene, Davison said.

Multiple reports have indicated that two bodies were found inside the home – those of an elderly woman and her daughter – though Davison couldn’t confirm those findings at this time.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
