Reinventing genres and themes is not easy. But these series show, through the quality of their plots and actors, that stories that can be told differently. Metro highlights the series that—according to portals such as Time, Vulture and Rotten Tomatoes—became the favorites.
Mare of Easttown
The HBO miniseries has 94 percent positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. It sees Mare Sheehan (Kate Winslet) as a policewoman who, in the midst of her complex personal and family circumstances, must deal with the murder of a young woman in a small, gray Pennsylvania town. Winslet’s performance has been praised by audiences and critics alike.

Wandavision
It has been the most successful series this year. In the United States alone, ‘Wandavision’ has been viewed 6.5 million times. The performance of Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany and Kathryn Hahn, plus the references to the whole television culture of the 20th century and how Wanda Maximoff elaborated the grief when losing the love of her life, kept viewers interested and talking about the series on social networks. The production gives way to Marvel’s Phase 4 as one of its strongest cards. It has a 91 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Lupin
This year already saw the premiere of two seasons that narrate the journey of the white-collar thief, Assane Diop, to avenge his father. An immense Omar Sy is the one who has taken all the plaudits for playing this elegant, charismatic and imposing character who will continue his story in the third season. On Rotten Tomatoes, the favorable reviews reach over 90 percent. In fact, the first part has a 98 percent approval rating.

Sweet Tooth
Being born in a dystopian world where you are shunned for being a hybrid (half-human, half-animal) is enough of a driving force to make you wonder where you came from. This is what gives rise to the story of Gus, a half-deer boy who wants to find his mother after living in isolation for ten years. Based on Jeff Lemire’s comic book, the series is already preparing a second season and achieved 89 percent positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

Hacks
Watching the disparate relationship between this new version of Joan Rivers, the legendary and acidic comedian Deborah Vance (Jane Smart) and a 25-year-old rising writer with all the artificiality of Las Vegas in the background, has been a delight for audiences and critics alike. It has a stunning 100 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
