Body found in Schuylkill identified as missing Drexel student Stevens Glemaud

Police have identified a body found in the Schuylkill River yesterday evening as Stevens Glemaud, 18, a Drexel University student from West Orange, N.J.

Authorities said Glemaud was reported missing on Sunday. He reportedly attended an off-campus party Friday, the night after Drexel’s final examinations wrapped up for the year, according to the school’s academic calendar.

Glemaud returned to his room for several hours early Saturday morning and then walked away from the dorm on the 3200 block of Race Street in the Powelton section of West Philadelphia. According to a statement released by Drexel University yesterday, that was the last time Glemaud was seen.

Investigators said marine units pulled his body from the river near the
Spring Garden Street Bridge around 5 p.m. yesterday. Though the Medical Examiner’s
Office has not yet determined a cause of death, there are no signs of
foul play, according to police.

“University officials have been in contact with Glemaud’s family and conveyed their sincere condolences on behalf of the Drexel community,” the statement issued by the university reads. “In a close-knit community like Drexel, the death of a fellow student is deeply felt. Drexel’s Counseling Center is offering its services to members of the community who have been affected by this tragic event.”
