Body found in suitcase near the Shore identified as South Jersey mother

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office issued a statement Tuesday identifying the human remains found by a hunter in a suitcase near the Shore as a young mother.

Tara Rogers-Alicea, 30, of Monroeville, has been identified as the person discovered in the woods of Egg Harbor Township behind Shore Mall on Sunday, Jan. 5 around 1:30 p.m., prosecutors said.

Rogers-Alicea was identified based on photographs of her tattoos that were released to the public and a fingerprint analysis.

Rogers-Alicea death has been ruled a homicide and the cause of the death was determined to be strangulation, prosecutors said.

According to her Facebook page, Rogers-Alicea is a resident of Turnersville, New Jersey. She also posted photographs of two daughters.

Rogers-Alicea remains were discovered by a hunter who is also a local police officer, who immediately contacted local authorities.

No arrests have been made and no suspects have been named by authorities.
