Brown out with concussion symptoms

Philadelphia Phillies v New York Mets Domonic Brown leads the Phillies with 24 home runs this season.

The Phillies’ playoff hopes may have taken a quick turn for the worst Wednesday after it was revealed Domonic Brown was being evaluated for concussion-like symptoms.

Brown, who leads the Phils in home runs, bumped his head Tuesday night while attempting to make a diving catch in St. Louis. He sat out Wednesday night’s game against the Cardinals. Laynce Nix started in left field and batted sixth, while Delmon Young took over the cleanup spot.

Brown, a new addition to Twitter, wrote the following: “Not playing tonight or tomorrow. Sucks!!!”

The 25-year-old is batting .271 this season, with 24 home runs and 69 RBIs. He has played in 99 out of a possible 100 games. The earliest Brown can return is Friday.

Meanwhile, the Phillies designated catcher Humberto Quintero for assignment and recalled utility man Michael Martinez to take his spot on the roster.
