Cambridge jail sergeant gets bail for drug charges

A sergeant working in a Cambridge jailhouse was ordered held on $1,000 bail today after facing a judge for drug charges.

Michael Dell’Isola, 51, of Somerville, was arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with trafficking cocaine, authorities said.

The Middlesex district attorney’s office and the Middlesex Sheriff’s Department conducted an internal investigation after receiving an anonymous tip. Dell’Isola was also ordered to stay away from the sheriff’s department.

Their investigation concluded yesterday when an undercover state trooper delivered cocaine and $500 to Dell’Isola, authorities said.

Dell’Isola, an employee with the sheriff’s office for 28 years, was suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
