Carter, Briere rock ’Canes in third period

There are a few constants this hockey season. Matt Cooke is a bully, Tim Thomas found the Fountain of Youth and Carolina isn’t very good on the penalty kill.

The Flyers took full advantage of the latter Thursday, notching a pair of power-play goals in the third period in a 2-1 Flyers’ win over the Hurricanes.

Carolina, which came in ranked 23rd in the NHL against the power play, gave up goals to Jeff Carter — his sixth goal in five games — first and then Danny Briere, while Brian Boucher stopped 31 shots.

The Flyers are now 13-3 in 2011. They host the L.A. Kings on Sunday.
