In the months leading up to the 2016 Democratic National Convention in July, credit unions are working with the DNC and a group called RealClearPolitics to help reduce the footprint left behind from all those expected people.

This spring, the Karabots Pediatric Care Center at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) will be the recipient of a brand new outdoor garden, compliments of the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) and RealClearPolitics.

This new Health and Wellness Garden will serve as a resource for patientand community engagement programs, including physical activities. It’s designed to serve as an area to host events and the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association is spearheading the$300,000fundraising effort to cover the costs of the project.

“Credit unions have a long-honored tradition of doing ‘leave behind projects’ in cities hosting the national conventions,” said Vicki Christner, spokeswoman for CUNA.

“The goal is to ensure the space created continues to serve long after the convention leaves town…the idea is we want to something that really leaves a good, lasting impact on the city.”

CUNA and RealClearPolitics are working with the DNC in Philly and the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohioto make improvements in children’s hospitals within these cities and leave something positive in their wakes.

Groundbreakings at both locations are set for this spring.
