Close call now over in 2nd District

The 2nd District City Council race may be over.

Or not. Yesterday, state Rep. Kenyatta Johnson was declared winner over realtor Barbara Capozzi by a mere 46 votes.

“If this campaign has taught us anything, it’s that you have to fight for every vote and that every vote counts,” Johnson said. “Moving ahead, we’ll continue to focus on the issues that got us here: growing the Philadelphia economy, making our streets safer, improving our schools.”

Just after 4:30 p.m., Capozzi issued a statement saying she was proud of the campaign “we ran against the machine. … I am considering all options in regards to next steps. It is in the city’s best interests that residents of the 2nd District get the last say in who represents them.”
