A frightening domestic dispute got the attention of law enforcement, and now two Montgomery County residents are in jail.
On Nov. 28, cops were called to a residence in Stowe, 42 miles northwest ofPhiladelphia near Pottstown. There, authorities said, Dashawn Smith burglarized the house and allegedly put a gun to the head of his then ex-girlfriend, MelissaGriffin. An arrest warrant was issued for Smith’s arrest in connection with that disturbance.
After that investigation, authorities realized they were already looking into Smith for allegedly trafficking heroin. So, multiple jurisdictions came together across Montgomery County – and they launched a jointinvestigation using the Nov. 28 incident as a springboard into a wider probe.
On Dec. 17, cops startedsurveillance of another residence, and they reportedly saw Smith and Griffin there –together again.
Using the Nov. 28 incident, cops arrested Smith that day. Authorities alleged that Smith attempted to discard heroin during the arrest – a fracas they saidinjured two officers.
Following Smith’s arrest on Dec. 17, cops obtained a search warrant for both residences where they said they found nearly 1,300 bags of heroin, five cell phones, nearly $6,000 in cash and a taser. When they came upon Griffin while executingthe search warrant, cops said they found her in a room with a “substantial amount” of heroin.
Both Griffin and Smith stand accused of heroin trafficking and related offenses with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Jan. 12.
