A 41-year-old man who was riding a bicycle Wednesday night in the Torresdale neighborhood died after being struck by a SEPTA bus.

The crash occurred just after 7:30 p.m. on the 9900 block of Frankford Avenue. Authorities said the Route 66 bus and cyclist were both heading northbound at the time of the collision.

The cyclist was struck by the rear passenger’s side of the bus, SEPTA spokesman Andrew Busch said.

Medics rushed the man to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries just before 9 p.m.

All SEPTA buses are equipped with cameras, and police said there were also witnesses to the crash.

The Philadelphia Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit will take the lead in the investigation, Busch said.

SEPTA will later conduct an internal review to determine whether the vehicle malfunctioned and the driver followed protocols.
