Dawkins honored Sunday

Brian Dawkins fever — catch it!

One of the greatest players to ever put on a Philadelphia Eagles uniform is back in town this weekend to enjoy a special tribute ceremony at the Linc. The Eagles will officially retire his No. 20 jersey before the start of Sunday night’s Giants-Eagles game. (Ticket-holders are invited to attend the press conference, but space is limited). Then, Dawkins will be honored on the field and address the fans during a halftime ceremony.

There has been a lot of turnover in the Eagles’ locker room since Dawkins’ departure. For those that were here, the memories are everlasting.

“Brian Dawkins is one of my all-time favorite players and one of the best to ever put on an Eagles uniform,” owner Jeffrey Lurie said when Dawkins retired. “On the field, in many ways, Brian re-invented the safety position. “

For those that played against him, the respect is just as strong.

“I think the hardest hit I ever took was from Brian Dawkins,” Mike Vick said. “He was an outstanding leader, a competitor, and an ambassador for the NFL.”

If you can’t get to Sunday’s game, go to philadelphiaeagles.com. The team’s official website will be broadcasting all the tributes live.
