Delco man apparently shoots himself after setting house on fire: Report

A man found dead in a Springfield Township, Delaware Countyhouse fire early Friday apparently killed himself after setting the blaze, according to a published report.

Firefighters discovered “heavy flames and thick smoke” when they arrived at the residence on East Thompson Avenue and Granite Terrace just after midnight, 6ABC reported.

A victim was found on the second floor and pronounced dead.

NBC10, which identified the victim as 57-year-old Michael Schoen, reported that investigators found “gallons of flammable materials” in several rooms of the home. The fire may have started in the basement.

Springfield Police Chief Joseph Daly told NBC10 Schoen was found in a second-floor bedroom with an apparent gunshot wound. Police believe it was self-inflicted.
