Deschutes distributing to East Coast

The Eagles looked to Oregon for a head coach. Luckily for Philadelphia, Oregon is giving back with a healthy donation of beer.

Deschutes Brewery, based out of Bend, Ore., celebrated its 25thanniversaryThursday. As part of the festivities, the brewery announced it will be distributing its award-winning craft beer year-round in the Philadelphia area. Deschutes has partnered with Muller, Inc. to pour in Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties. This marks Deschutes first distribution on the East Coast.

“For the past four years, beer lovers have only been able to experience Deschutes Brewery beers during Philly Beer Week, but now they can enjoy these world-class beers every day,” said Muller vice-president of sales John Houck. “We couldn’t be more proud and honored to be working with Deschutes Brewery to bring their amazing beers to the region.”

Deschutes sent Metro a six pack to sample, including Inversion IPA, Twilight Summer Ale and River Ale.

Quick Review

» Inversion IPA bills itself as worshipping the hop flower, mainly it doesn’t disappoint. While it isn’t as hoppy as some local IPAs (see Yards), it does deliver on taste. Smooth and balanced, with a nice kick at the finish.

» Twilight Summer Ale was my favorite, with its Amarillo hop bill. Personally Victory Summer Love is one of my favorite summer sippers. This one is very similar. It delivers on that crisp, refreshing taste, but the healthy dose of hops will awaken your taste buds.

Deschutes will celebrate the launch with tastings and events around Philadelphia starting in early November. More details to follow.

deschutes Deschutes River Ale was the lightest of the three beers sampled. This is light, clean brew that you can kick back with by the pool all summer.
