DeSean Jackson thinks he’s ‘one of the best’

While the pros and cons — and uniqueness — of DeSean Jackson’s game has been openly and furiously debated the past few weeks, one thing is certain: The kid thinks he’s an elite receiver in this league.

As news of Larry Fitzgerald’s monster deal — eight years at $120 million — filtered into the Eagles’ locker room, Jackson was asked for his opinion. The two star wideouts are good friends and Jackson was one of the first to congratulate him via Twitter.

“He’s a good player. He’s one of the top receivers in the league, like myself, so of course when it comes down to that, yeah, but money-wise or stats-wise, I don’t compare any of that stuff,” Jackson told reporters. “I just take care of what I have to take care of.”

Jackson went on to say that he doesn’t look up to any of the receivers in the league today. Yes, he respects them but doesn’t look up to them the same way he did Michael Irvin and Jerry Rice when he was growing up.

“There are a couple of great receivers out there,” Jackson said. “I just consider myself to be one of the best wide receivers in the NFL.”

Not exactly breaking news, but it is interesting to note that Jackson referred to himself (twice) as one of the top players at his position. Obviously, he’ll want to be compensated as such.

As far as the topic of contract negotiations … Jackson didn’t provide any update.

“We don’t know yet, we’ll see,” he said.
