DesignPhiladelphia Starts Tomorrow

The 6th annual DesignPhiladelphia festival starts tomorrow, offering residents and visitors a view into Philadelphia’s creative industries at work through October 23. Since 2005, the program has showcased the role that design has played historically in this region, and celebrates the city’s contemporary significance as a center for creative advancement.

In partnership with The University of the Arts, DesignPhiladelphia unites creative disciplines – from architecture to interior design, fashion to product design, multi-media to graphic design – dlivering the message that Philadelphia is a rich resource for creativity, innovation and cultural vibrancy.

The unique, open participation festival program features lectures, symposia, and round table discussions, creating opportunities for students and professionals alike to network across design categories. The program’s street events, exhibitions, and public installations expand general awareness of the power design has in our everyday lives. Attendees will have the chance to meet more than 450 national and international designers at the heart of this region’s creative economy, and to see their work in one condensed period of time.

The program kicks off tomorrow with the Liao Collection Benefit & Award Presentation, an Asian antique emporium. The first annual Design Champion Award will be presented to Mayor Michael A. Nutter for his unwavering support of the regional creative community and for his initiatives to encourage innovative design solutions to improving and greening the urban environment.
