Doc dominates, Phillies sweep

Phillies 3, Padres 1

» Tonight, at Arizona, 9:40
» Ian Kennedy (2-1, 5.64 ERA) vs. Cliff Lee (2-1, 3.91)

What went right …

1 Bounce back

Roy Halladay shook off his first loss of the season in dominant fashion. The Phillies’ ace struck out 14 in 8.2 innings, limiting San Diego to just five singles and one run. Antonio Bastardo got the final out for the first save of his career. The Phils have won five straight.

2 Staying inside

After taking a 2-0 lead in the sixth, Shane Victorino circled the bases the hard way, hitting an inside-the-park home run to right-center in the cavernous alleys of PETCO Park. It was the speedy centerfielder’s first career inside-the-park homer.

3 Road warriors

The four-game sweep pushed the Phillies’ record to a Major League best 15-6. However, even more impressively, the Phils improved to 8-2 on the road — also the best mark in the bigs. The Phils have now beaten the Padres 11 consecutive times in San Diego.
