Doug Pederson is happy to be back home in Philadelphia

Doug Pederson does not have as much coaching experience as many might want from a first time head coach.

He’s only been an offensive coordinator for three seasons afterall.

But in some ways, he’s uniquely qualified to take over the gig after coaching and playing quarterback in the pressure cooker that is Philadelphia.

“I understand the culture and the passion of Philadelphia,” Pederson said in his introductory press conference Tuesday. “I get it. I experienced it as a quarterback in 1999. Coming back, I understand what it feels like to win in this city. This city hasn’t won and this organization hasn’t won in quite some time. It’s my job to turn that around.”

As opposed to going to Miami or to Jacksonville, Pederson was excited about the opportunity to interview for the job in Philadelphia. The chance to coach herehe calledan honor. And his familiarity will certainly help him to interact with a large media base and relentless fans.

“It does make that transition much easier knowing you’re coming back to a place more familiar to you,” the coach said.

His family is also glad to be back.

“Our kids were thrilled honestly,” Pederson said, explaining that his older two children are enthused to be back where they grew up before moving to Kansas City.”Our youngest will be a freshman is probably themost fired up because all of his buddies have texted him, telling him to ‘come on back.'”

Pederson also is fairly friendly with some players on the Eagles’ roster, having coached here before leaving for the Chiefs with Andy Reid in 2013.

“I am really looking forward to working with all of them.There are some guys here I am very familiar with, Brent Celek being one of them, Jason Peters being another.”
