Before Sunday, no NFL team in the history of football had ever come back from double digits behind and won three times in a row to start a season.
The 3-0 Eagles are used to making history now, after historic comebacks against the Jaguars, Colts and Redskins. And there are still 13 games left.
“It’s definitely going to be competitive,” Eagles receiver Jordan Matthews said looking forward, “It was definitely a fight [today], to be literal. I just know it’s going to be like that. The teams that are going to win are the ones that stay even keeled throughout the game.”
Matthews made history as well, becoming the eighth rookie in Eagles history to catch two touchdown passes, and receiving eight passes, the most for a rookie since 1988.
Jeremy Maclin led the Birds with 154 receiving, his 11th 100-yard game and the third-highest output of his career.
He and Nick Foles have now connected for 775 yards and six touchdowns on 53 receptions in their last 10 games, games that the Eagles are 9-1 in.
Foles became the third quarterback in NFL history to eclipse 300-yards in three straight games Sunday, while Chris Polk’s first quarter, 102-yard kickoff return for a touchdown was the first such score since Quenton Demps did it for the Birds in 2008, and the first ever for the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. The Eagles have had to come from behind three times and haven’t played a complete 60 minutes. And they are still 3-0.
“We have a long way to go with this football team,” Jeremy Maclin said, “but just imagine how good we will be once we get [some] things fixed.”
