There are a lot of names on the Eagles’ current injury list that will make fans cringe. Luckily, none of the players named below are expected to miss regular season games — yet.
Here’s the latest on some importantwounded Birds, their expected return dates and some thoughts from Eagles coaches:
Carson Wentz, QB, rib fracture (Return ETA, final preseason game): “He’s an aggressive athlete, so there’s going to be a time or two where he’s going to take a shot, but we have to keep that to a minimum. He has to keep that to a minimum, but I think he has a pretty good handle on it.” — OCFrank Reich
Wendell Smallwood, RB, quad strain (Return ETA, Thursday vs. Steelers): “Just because a guy is healthy, there’s still kind of — you have to work back into full action. That’s a day-by-day decision that’s really made between the head coach and the trainers.” — Reich
Jordan Matthews, WR, bone bruise in knee (Return ETA, third preseason game):“It’s definitely one now that is day-to-day. There is no structural damage in there, which is definitely pleasing because on tape it looked like it could have been. But yeah, I’m just looking forward to when he does return.” — HC Doug Pederson
Mychal Kendricks, LB, Hamstring (Return ETA, third preseason game): “Mychal is a very, very conscientious player and he works very hard off the field. So he’s getting all the mental reps and he’s staying up and he’s asking a lot of questions. He’s staying up on those things. There’s no substitute for doing it on the field, but it makes no sense to go out there if you can’t physically do it.” — DC Jim Schwartz
Also injured (status for preseason Week 2): Josh Andrews, OL(ankle, questionable), Brandon Brooks, OG, (biceps, probable), Ron Broons, CB (neck, probable), Nolan Carroll, CB (ankle, probable), Marcus Johnson, WR (quad, probable), Bennie Logan, DT (calf, probable), Mike Martin, DT (knee, questionable), Cody Parkey, K (groin, probable), JaCorey Shepherd, CB (knee, questionable)
