Roger Goodell is doing everything he can to emphasize safety, even with the NFL’s uniforms.
On Tuesday, the league and Nike showed off a new line of uniforms and helmets for the 2012 season. It’s billed as a “head-to-toe integrated system of dress.”
“The NFL is pleased to work with Nike,” said Goodell. “This relationship continues our commitment to delivering fans worldwide the best sports and entertainment experience. We are looking forward to the excitement and innovation Nike will bring to our game, players and fans.”
For starters, the uniforms are lighter and offer zone-mesh ventilation, which provide cooling zones. There is also deflex padding, which protects the “hit zones.” And it features an aircraft-grade D-ring belt to reduce weight.
In theory, everything works in unison, so there are Nike Vapor Game Socks, Nike Vapor Jet 2.0 Gloves and Nike Vapor Talon Elite cleats. The latter are built to maximize speed and use an adaptive traction system.
