One day after extending offensive tackle Todd Herremans to a longterm deal, the Eagles went after the big boys. First, the team signed defensive end Trent Cole to a four-year extension and then the Birds inked wide receiver DeSean Jackson to a five-year deal.
“We are thrilled to be able to keep one of the NFL’s top playmakers in Philadelphia,” Eagles coach Andy Reid said in a statement. “DeSean is a game breaker, he has the speed and ability to score from anywhere on the field, and he has proven himself to be a big threat for our offense.”
Jackson’s deal is worth a reported $51 million, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. More details to come. Cole’s deal is worth a reported $48.5 million, including $15 million guaranteed.
The Eagles also traded offensive tackle Winston Justice to Indianapolis for a sixth round pick and signed defensive tackle Antonio Dixon to a one-year contract. Dixon had been a restricted free agent. The Eagles are expected to cut center Jamaal Jackson, although no official announcement has been made at this point.
