Eagles trade Nick Foles to Rams for Sam Bradford

Several NFL sources have confirmed that the Eagles, who already confused fans with their deal to resign Mark Sanchez earlier this week, agreed to swap Nick Foles for Sam Bradford just after the new NFL season started Tuesday at 4 p.m.

In a statement released by the Eagles, the team announced it was sending Foles, a 4th round draft pick in 2015 and a 2nd round pick in 2016 to the St. Louis Rams in exchange for Bradford and the Rams 5th round pick in 2015.

If Sam Bradford doesn’t start at least eight games for the Eagles, they get a 4th rounder and if he gets reinjured they get 3rd.

Or in other words, the Eagles part with some valuable picks, badly limiting their assets to trade up and go after Marcus Mariota in the draft.

It appears Chip Kelly cites Sam Bradford, 28, as his quarterback of the future. Clearly the Rams value Foles above Bradford.

After bursting onto the scene and appearing to be a surefire franchise quarterback in St. Louis, Bradford suffered two torn ACLs in recent seasons, putting his future in doubt.

Foles missed the second half of the 2014 season after putting up decent numbers during the Birds’ first eight games. In 2013, he made the Pro Bowl after throwing 27 touchdowns and just two interceptions.

Bradford is in the final year of his contract. Scheduled to make just about $13 million this season while Foles will make just over half a million on the last year of his rookie-deal. His cap hit in 2015 is $16.9 million, making it unlikely Bradford can be cut and making him undesirable to be flipped in another trade.

With Sanchez and Bradford, the Eagles now have a first and fifth overall pick on their roster at quarterback.
