Fat lady expected to sing next year for the Tritone

Tritone is in the process of being sold and will likely close its doors as a music venue early next year, but the couple looking to purchase it said they plan to preserve some entertainment in what will become a neighborhood bar.

The current owner is in negotiations to sell the bar to Chris and Heather Fetfatzes, owners of nearby Hawthorne’s Cafe, but the sale has not been finalized. The bar will continue hosting its nightly shows at least through January, those with knowledge of the negotiations said.

“[Live music] is not going to be available all the time. We’re going to keep it there, but our focus is going to be a neighborhood bar,” said Chris Fetfatzes, adding that he and his wife plan to enhance the food and add outdoor dining.

Sara Sherr, who has hosted Sugar Town at Tritone since 2007, noted that the bar is the last of a dying breed.

“Tritone is one of the last remaining music venues in Center City,” Sherr said. “It was so easy to perform and artist-friendly that all kinds of music and artists got a shot there.”
