Federal corruption charges filed against Philadelphia DA

Federal prosecutors filed corruption charges against Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams on Wednesday.

The Inquirerposted the full indictment Tuesday detailing charges against Williams, who was revealed to have failed to report his acceptance of some $160,000 worth of gifts while serving as DA.

Williams was previously fined $62,000 for failing to report the gifts, which was said to include sideline tickets to Sixers games, trips to South America, and repairs to the roof of his home.

Facing the “embarrassment, shame and adverse publicity”related to the scandal, as Williams put it, he announced in February he would not run for re-election.

The DA’s office declined to comment on the charges, a spokesman said.

“The DA is not in the office today because he is spending time with his family,” the spokesman said in a statement. “I ask that you respect his privacy and the privacy of the men and women of the office so all of us can continue to do our jobs without the distraction of additional media attention.”
