A $5,000 reward is being offered for the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for setting a fire on a subway station platform this week.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Philadelphia Field Office has ruled the fire an arson and is hoping someone from the public has information. The flames began in a small bag at the Girard Station on the Broad Street Subway around 2 p.m. Tuesday, causing officials to shut down much of the line for about five hours.
No injuries were reported, but SEPTA estimates the damages were between $25,000 and $50,000. Hundreds of commuters were forced to use shuttle buses to get to points north and south along Broad Street.
“ATF takes these arson incidents very seriously because it involves our community and neighborhood and … our transportation system,” said spokesman Steve Bartholomew.
