The Flyers signed rookie Samuel Morin to a three-year contract Tuesday, according to GM Paul Holmgren.

The 18-year-old defenseman was drafted by the in the first round (11th overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Morin, who is expected to begin the season in juniors, recorded an assist on Vinny Lecavalier’s power-play goal in Monday night’s 4-3 shootout loss to Washington. He played 23 minutes and 14 seconds, while taking nine total shots. He is slated to play again tonight against the New York Rangers.

Morin (6-foot-6, 211 lbs.) has spent the last two seasons with Rimouski Oceanic in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Last season, he posted four goals and 12 assists for 16 points in 46 games, while gathering 117 penalty minutes and a plus-10 rating.
