Francis Murphy: Catholic school AD busted for alleged Facebook messages

Archbishop John Carroll High School’s athletic director was arrested on Friday for soliciting a 17 year-old boy for sex.

Francis Murphy has been the athletic director at Archbishop John Carroll High School since 1999. During that time he served as the boy’s basketball coach and offensive coordinator of the football team.

According to Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman, a male student made a complaint that athletic director, Murphy, was “sending him sexually suggestive messages on Facebook” about exchanging gifts for sexual favors. Murphy told the boy he would be his “sugar daddy.” Murphy requested that the messages should stay between them but the boy told his mother, who then contacted police.

Following the complaint Montgomery County Detectives, posing as the 17 year-old boy on Facebook, set up a meeting with Murphy at the Frosty Falls Ice Cream Shop in Bridgeport. Murphy was arrested upon arriving at the ice cream shop.
