Looking for some fun things to do this weekend? Metro has you covered.

PAWS and The Bourse Movie Nights

According to a release, movie buffs and their four-legged friends are invited to The Bourse’s fifth street patio every Friday in May from 7-10 p.m. for a safe and socially-distanced outdoor movie screening. Each table seats up to four guests and costs a flat fee of $40, so groups of one, two, three or four only need to purchase one ticket. When purchasing a ticket, guests will also have the opportunity to add a suggested donation of $5, directly benefitting PAWS, Philadelphia’s largest rescue partner dedicated to saving the lives of homeless and at-risk animals.

Moviegoers are invited to the patio starting at 6 p.m. to enjoy snacks and refreshments from select food hall vendors prior to the movie. A volunteer from PAWS will also be on-site with adoptable dogs (depending on availability) and to answer questions. Masks must be worn at all times unless seated at a table. In the event of rain, the event will be canceled, and ticket holders will receive a refund. This week, on May 28th, audiences can check out ‘Air Bud’ for this special screening.

Friday Night Bites at the Philadelphia Zoo

Friday Nights Dinos and Bites launches this Friday, May 28, with extended hours for the Zoo through 8 p.m. – for that date and every Friday through Labor Day. This event not only provides visitors with more time to peruse through the massive indoor-outdoor facility, it also will include life-size animatronic dinosaurs and new menus that complement the new exhibit, Big Time: Life in an Endangerous Zone experience. Most of the flavors of this new experience can be found through the newly renamed Bedrock Brews beer garden and Dino Bites fooderie. For Friday Nights Dinos and Bites, Bedrock Brews and Dino Bites will spotlight one local craft brewer per week, plus offer up burger and beer pairing specials. Highlights include their T-Rexican paired with Troegs Dream Weaver, the Pterodactyl Turkey Burger paired with Victory Brother Love IPA, the BBQ Double Brontesaurus Burger paired with Troegs Haze Charmer and more.

On the educational side of it all, there is also one new exhibit that adds to the mix of the new weekend event. Big Time is a new immersive multi-sensory experience that features 24-animatronic prehistoric beasts, transporting guests back to when these giants roamed the earth. This dynamic experience stimulates the senses and enables guests to walk among dinosaurs like the larger than life T-rex, puts them face-to-face with an enormous Woolly Mammoth, and side-by-side with a life-sized polar bear, elephant and Sumatran rhino and more.

Summerfest

For Summerfest, activities and offerings will mirror years passed with the return of boardwalk-style rides, games, concessions and their staple: The 12,000 square foot roller skating rink with sweeping views of the water and the Ben Franklin Bridge. That means Philadelphians can take advantage of the Ferris Wheel, Carousel, Gravity Storm Moon Bounce, Artful Golfer Mini Golf, the arcade and boardwalk games (balloon buster, basketball toss, ball-in-a-basket, high-striker, etc.) during open hours.

Food-wise, there will be plenty to munch on and refreshing sips to slurp on from Chickie’s and Pete’s and Skelly’s Concessions while enjoying everything Summerfest has to offer. Chickie’s & Pete’s will be operating the Crabshack and the Lodge bar so you can order wings, Crabfries, and beer all in one place, while Skelly’s Amusements will offer some seasonal classics such as funnel cake, ice cream, lemonade and cotton candy.

Northern Liberties Art Walk

Northern Liberties Mural Hunt: Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Street Art will debut on Friday, May 28, and run through Monday, July 5, and everyone is able to participate in this all-new artful excursion. According to the release, participants in the scavenger hunt can participate by downloading the free Let’s Roam app from Google Play or the Apple store, then locate the mural hunt on the app’s regional map. Once activated, participants can go at their own pace to find 20+ pieces of street art and murals, while learning about the art pieces’ history and significance. Participants are then asked to complete fun challenges—such as taking a selfie with street art and answering trivia to rack up points— and enter to win weekly prizes.

In all, there are about 20 pieces of art around the Northern Liberties neighborhood to check out. Most are from notable artists including Paul Santoleri, Frank Hyder and Dennis Haugh, with others spanning images of famous Philadelphians such as Edgar Allan Poe, Ben Franklin and Gritty. At the end of the hunt on July 5, one grand prize winner will win a bowling party for four to the recently reopened North Bowl. The grand prize winner will be selected from those who finished the challenge and had the single highest score for the entire season.
