Ancient Alcohol: After Hours

The Penn Museum and Philly Loves Beer are teaming up again this Friday, August 28th from 6 pm to 8 pm for another edition of their interactive ancient-themed alcohol tour, which is back by popular demand. Philly Loves Beer has curated a 6-pack that’s specifically designed to pair perfectly with the tour, and those interested can pick them up at or have them delivered from Bottle Bar East in Fishtown or The Bottle Shop in South Philly. Not only will participants get to drink the beers with the tour guides, according to the release, they will also learn about drinking games in Ancient Greece, the importance of having enough beer in ancient Egypt, modern-day brewing techniques and also how science has helped us to recreate a beverage served at a funerary feast hosted by King Midas. Dr. Olivia Hayden, an archaeologist who has worked on excavations in Israel, Greece, and Turkey, and beer scientist Dr. Matt Farber, Assistant Professor of Biology and the Director of the Brewing Science Program at the University of the Sciences will act as the tour guides for this event. Tickets are $10, and the 6-pack is sold separately.
