Claude Giroux is from Canada. He is also among the elite forwards in the NHL.

But a slow start to the 2013-14 season seemed to have doomed Giroux, as he was told the news Tuesday morning that he would have to wait another four years before fulfilling one of his dreams.

“It was one of my dreams to play for Canada,” Giroux told reporters, “but there’s a lot of good players from Canada and the names announced are talented, good players.”

Though he started slow, Giroux is back to his productive ways as are the Flyers.

He has seven goals and 11 assists in his last 12 games and 12 goals and 26 assists overall.

“Some believe everything happens for a reason,” he said, “and if I didn’t make this team, there’s a reason behind it. But I’m not upset or mad. It’s a tough day.”
