Grocery chain brings food, jobs

PHILADELPHIA. A taste of the South is coming to Philadelphia.

Bottom Dollar, a subsidiary of North Carolina-based grocery store chain Food Lion, plans to open at least one store in the Philadelphia area by 2011. It will be the company’s first expansion north of Maryland.

The first location will be 6119 N. Broad Street in the city’s West Oak Lane section at the site of a former Shop N Bag. Developer Richard Soloff received zoning approval for accessory signs at that location yesterday.
