Halladay falters, offense stagnant

Brewers 9, Phillies 0

Today, vs. Brewers, 1:05
Chris Narveson (1-0, 1.45 ERA) vs. Cliff Lee (2-1, 4.19)

What went wrong …

1 Hammer time. Ryan Braun, aka the Hebrew Hammer, has been the MVP of the series. He killed the Phils with his bat and glove for a second straight game. Braun homered, singled and drew two walks off Roy Halladay. He also scored twice, and robbed Jimmy Rollins of extra bases with two men on in the third.

2 Where’s the offense? The Phillies bats, which have been quiet for the past week, were barely heard again last night. The Phils managed just two hits — a bunt by Rollins and a double from Shane Victorino.

3 Halladay is human. The ace of the Phillies’ aces suffered through his worst start and first loss of the season. Halladay (2-1, 2.83 ERA) gave up 10 hits and six runs — all earned — in 6 2/3 innings of work. Even if Halladay pitched a gem, would it have mattered? Like Charlie Manuel says, “You don’t win many games, when you don’t score no runs.”
