Hextall returning to Flyers front office

New Jersey Devils v Los Angeles Kings - Game Six Ron Hextall helped lead the LA Kings to a Stanley Cup championship in 2012, thanks to his work in the front office.

Ron Hextall is back with the Flyers.

The team announced Monday that Hextall had been named Assistant GM and Director of Hockey Operations, according to Flyers GM Paul Holmgren.

“We are very pleased to welcome back Ron Hextall to our management team,” said Holmgren. “Ron has a wealth of experience in the front office in various capacities which will be a valuable addition to our staff.”

Hextall, 49, returns to the Flyers’ organization after spending the last seven seasons with the Los Angeles Kings as Vice President/Assistant GM, which included the team’s run to the Stanley Cup in 2012.

He also served as GM of the AHL’s Manchester Monarchs, the Kings’ primary minor-league affiliate. Hextall helped the Monarchs to a record of 290-205-24-32 in seven seasons and an appearance in the Calder Cup playoffs in each season. The Monarchs advanced to the conference finals twice during that span.

Prior to joining the Kings, Hextall spent the previous seven seasons with the Flyers, including 2002 through 2006 as Director of Pro Hockey Personnel. Since his retirement from the NHL in 1999, he joined the team as a Pro Scout.
