Dion Waitres would be a good fit on Sixers.

They have a big need for guards to compliment Ben Simmons and the various bigs on the roster. They also have a bevy of cap space. And to boot, Waiters grew up in South Philly.

He went toBartramHigh but played his high school basketball across the river in New Jersey(before college at Syracuse). Now a free agent, the career 12.8 points per game scoreris looking for a new team, and on Tuesday posted the hashtag”TRUSTTHEPROCESS” on his Instagram account.

The Sixers, of course, famously used that tagline during their painful three-season rebuild under the leadership of departed GM Sam Hinkie. So many would surmise that perhaps the match was made, and the free agent was on his way home.

But not so fast. The video on Instagram, which saw him shooting hoops and clearly practicing for the upcoming season, may have been unrelated to the Sixers.

According to the Philly Inquirer, which quoted a source this week:“That doesn’t have anything to do with the Sixers. That’s a mantra that he and his trainer have made for a while. When things weren’t doing well at Syracuse, they would say, ‘Trust the process.’ Whenever he goes through a tough time, he says ‘trust the process.’ Right now, he’s trusting the process of free agency.”

With Kevin Durant now in Oakland, the Thunder took back their qualifying offer to Waiters, who seems more and more likely to sign with a new team. Will itbe the 76ers? Time will tell — but perhaps Instagramwill not.
