Barkley could draw start Sunday

It’s no longer a quarterback controversy. Now, it’s more of a triage unit.

Eagles coach Chip Kelly offered little insight Monday on who his starting quarterback would be against the Giants. Mike Vick is still nursing a strained hamstring. Nick Foles left Sunday’s game with a concussion.

“My decision on who our quarterback is, is based on health,” Kelly said. “Right now, I don’t know who is healthy and who is not healthy. Until we find out who is healthy, it doesn’t help anybody to say that guy’s our starter. It doesn’t help the situation. Because I don’t know when they’re all coming back.”

Kelly has another option, rookie third-stringer Matt Barkley. He’s healthy, but he was very underwhelming in his NFL debut, throwing three interceptions.

“It’s Matt’s first time getting in the game. Obviously, we’re down 17‑3. We’re going to throw it every snap,” Kelly said. “See if we can somehow get it to a 17‑10 game, and then see if he can onside kick. Difficult situation for him to come in in, and I’m sure he’d want those throws back.”

When asked specifically if there was a scenario in which Barkley would start this Sunday, Kelly dead-panned: “You got anybody else out there?”
