Isear Jeffcoat: Body of missing 7-year-old found in East Oak Lane swimming pool

The body of a 7-year-old Tioga boy, reported missing yesterday, has been found at the bottom of a swimming pool, police said early this morning.

According to investigators, Isear Jeffcoat was taken from his home on the 1900 block of West Airdrie Street yesterday morning and dropped off at a daycare center at 1234 Rising Sun Avenue in Franklinville.

The daycare workers took Jeffcoat, along with other children, on an outing to a swimming pool on the 6600 block of North 8th Street in East Oak Lane, police said. Jeffcoat was last seen there around 3 p.m.

The child, who was barefoot and wearing only a t-shirt and basketball shorts, was reported missing at 3:30 p.m., police said.

Following an intense investigation, Marine Unit divers were called to do a search of the pool. Authorities said its bottom could not easily be seen and described the water as “murky.”

Jeffcoat was found unconscious at the bottom of the pool between 1 and 1:30 a.m. this morning, police said. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Though Northwest Detectives are currently conducting an investigation into the tragedy, including a review of the daycare tasked with supervising Jeffcoat at the time of his disappearance, no foul play is suspected and no charges have been filed at this time.
