It’s so hard to say goodbye

For Flyers fans, it’s the end of an era. The fran-chise dealt wing Simon Gagne to Tampa Bay yesterday in exchange for defenseman Matt Walker and a fourth round draft pick in 2011.

The move was expected as the Flyers needed to free cap space. Gagne, who waived his no-trade clause, will earn $5.25 million this season.

“This was a move to solidify our defense,” said Flyers GM Paul Holmgren. “Simon Gagne played 10 seasons for the Flyers and was not only a good player for us, but also handled himself in a first class manner on and off the ice.”

Gagne, 30, scored 259 goals for the Flyers — ninth-best in franchise history — while accumulating 265 assists and 524 points in 664 career games.
