It’s probably not a stretch to surmise that Philadelphia’s favorite 76ers might already be Joel Embiid.

Twitter antics aside, (he famously tweeted at Kim Kardashian and to LeBron James, to much fanfare, after joining the team), the center of the Sixers’ future made the most of a brief visit to the city over the weekend, en route to a rookie photo shoot in New York.

“I wasn’t expecting the city to be like that,” Embiid told CSN via satellite feed Sunday. “I was expecting it to be like Cleveland or Milwaukee, but it was way better. I got my first cheesesteak. I was visiting and it was great.”

Embiid went to Pats for a steak before venturing to Center City to hunt for a throwback jersey or two at Mitchell and Ness.

“I bought lots of jerseys,” Embiid said. “I got Dr. J (Julius Erving), Allen Iverson, Hakeem (Olajuwon), Tim Duncan, David Robinson, Shaq. I got all those jerseys of the great [NBA] big men.”

Will Embiid be among them? Only time will tell — a lot of time, as he won’t be playing until 2015.
