‘Kate plus 8’ plus questionable child labor

Kate Gosselin faces some new criticism — and this time it’s not about her hairstyle.

A Pennsylvania state representative wants answers about special work permits for Gosselin’s brood of 6-year-olds from the state Department of Labor and Industry, despite the fact that Pennsylvania law for underage workers doesn’t actually have permitting for television shows.

Children under age 7 are allowed special exemptions for a movie or theatrical performance, but nowhere in the old state law is any allowances for television shows. State Rep. Thomas Murt, D-Phila./Montgomery, said he wants to know who gave the work permits.

“It appears these permits were granted even though the law does not provide for them,” said Murt, who has proposed to close the loophole for television work by children while adding stronger protections for young actors. “I really would like to hear from the attorney general who approved them.”

A message left for the attorney general was not returned.
