Laughs on Philly helps you laugh out of Pride Month

On Wednesday, June 29, the monthly showcase Laughs on Philly: Unpasteurized will bring “the greatest LGBTQ-friendly funny people around to one of the most popular music venues,” Milkboy at 11th and Chestnut streets. Hosted by Philly area comics Eddie Finn, Alejandro Morales and Reid Benditt, the showcase promises a variety of comedy all night long.

“I got my start doing comedy in the Gayborhood and it feels great to bring this bounty of comics out to do a Pride Month show,” co-host Morales said. “Not everyone on the lineup is LGBT but we outnumber the straights this time, which makes it like a unicorn of comedy shows.”

The first half of the show, the “Cream,” will kick things off promptly at 7:30. Audiences will be treated to Philadelphia area comedians Lou Misiano, Brandon Jackson and Michael Kelly.

“Being part of this amazing show is both an honor and an important step to show the world that the LGBTQ community will continue to make art and not back down from who we are,” Kelly said. He then added, “Keep kissing!”

Perhaps the most significant aspect of the “Cream” segment of the show, however, are special guest performers Jess Salomon and Eman El Husseini.

“They have a really cool story,” Laughs on Philly co-host Eddie Finn explained. “They are a Jewish-Palestinian lesbian married couple who are both super accomplished standup comics.” The pair has appeared in everything from Philadelphia’s local Five Dollar Comedy Week to the Just For Laughs comedy festival to even Canadian television (El Husseini has had a half hour special on CTV while Salomon has been featured on “George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight“). No doubt the local LGTBQ community will be honored to be represented (and of course entertained) by this power couple as Pride 2016 winds down.

At 9 p.m., the second half of the show, “Curdle,” will take to the stage. The audience will be treated to the hilarious musical stylings of comedian Tim Raymus as well as improv comedy from local groups Stretchmarks the Spot and Jon and Ian. These acts have performed throughout the city, including at the Temple University Comedy Club and also as part of several Good Good Comedy shows. Raymus’ song that details his rather strong opinions of Comcast Cable is something that every Philadelphian needs to hear.
