LeSean McCoy can’t settle his beef: Calls Chip Kelly a racist

LeSean McCoy is a little bitter about being traded to Buffalo after growing up in Harrisburg, PA, going to college in Pittsburgh and playing his entire pro career as an Eagle.

And in an interview with ESPN the Magazine, he let loose another undignified shot at his former head coach Chip Kelly, outright calling the coach a racist.

“The relationship was never really great,” McCoy told ESPN in an exclusive interview.”I feel like I always respected him as a coach. I think that’s the way he runs his team. He wants the full control. You see how fast he got rid of all the good players. Especially all the good black players. He got rid of them the fastest. That’s the truth. There’s a reason. … It’s hard to explain with him. But there’s a reason he got rid of all the black players — the good ones — like that.”

Does McCoy have an argument? Kelly cut DeSean Jackson, did not come to terms with Jeremy Maclin and shipped McCoy overnight to the Bills.

And he chose to keep Riley Cooper on the team, supporting him after he got in hot water for making racist remarks and even extending his contract.

But Kelly also traded Nick Foles, a white player, away from the team.

And he has acquired, traded for and signed players of both races throughout his tenure with the Eagles.

Stephen A. Smith, an ESPN personality echoed McCoy’s sentiment over a month ago:

“Chip Kelly makes decisions over the last couple of years that, dare I say, leave a few brothers feeling uncomfortable,” Smith said. “I think that’s fair to say. I mean, we’re sitting here looking at some of the decisions that Chip Kelly makes and I’m like what is up? What’s up with that? I mean, it’s like you’ve got to be his kind of guy, you know? And I’m like, well, Riley Cooper’s your kind of guy?”

It remains to be seen, whether Kelly is a racist or McCoy is just bitter. But for a man who is trying to unite a vastly different locker room, a distraction like this one can’t be good.

Leading up to the NFL Draft, rumors swirled about the possibility of the Birds trading black stars like Fletcher Cox or Mychal Kendricks to get quarterback Marcus Mariota. Obviously none of these moves came into fruition, but the rumors have to be unsettling for the players involved.

Kelly must get his locker room back. And until this rumors of racism subside, it could be a tough task. Just ask Riley Cooper.
