Drinkers, get your aspirin ready. The day after the world’s largest bar crawl is going to be a rough one — at least, if Ray Sheehan of Philly2Night.com has anything to do with it. Philly2Night, along with UpcomingEvents.com, is hosting this Saturday’s “The Crawl,” designed to break the Guinness World Record set by Kansas City, Mo., last summer.

“The fact that Philly did not hold the record for this did not sit well with us,” Sheehan say. He’s hoping to draw 15,000 participants to bars all over the city – over 100 of them – to drink for a cause: The crawl raises money for Young Variety ─ The Children’s Charity and the Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #5.

To break the record, Philadelphia needs more than 4,885 people to each stop at 10 bars between noon and 8 p.m. The good news, for those of us considering fleeing the city that day, is that in order for their attendance to be counted participants must drink a 5 oz. non-alcoholic beverage at each bar (which earns them a wristband scan so the organizers can keep track).

Drinkers can meander to bars in Northern Liberties, South Street, Old City, Rittenhouse, University City, South Philly, Northeast Philly, Center City, Midtown Village and Fairmount.“Philadelphia is very passionate town,” Sheehan says. “Knowing it’s a citywide event was very well received with bar owners and the community.”

Pam Killian of McFadden’s (461 N. 3rd St.) jumped at the chance to join this (potentially) historic event. “I think this idea is really cool,” she says. It’s innovative and nobody’s done anything like it before. Plus it’s very creative marketing for us.”
