Man arrested in attack on early woman

A Northeast Philadelphia man has been charged with a series of home invasions and attempted car thefts in the Rhawnhurst section of the city.

Dimetry Worthy, 19, of the 2200 block of Strahle Street, was arrested Wednesday for an attempted burglary on the 2100 block of Emerson Street. He was then positively identified as the suspect who allegedly beat an 86-year-old bed-ridden woman during a home invasion early Wednesday on the 8100 block of Algon Avenue. In that incident, the woman allegedly awoke to a man asking her where the money was. As the woman screamed, the attacker struck her several times, but fled without taking anything, police said.

The woman was taken to Frankford Torresdole Aria Hospital with a fractured orbital bone and cuts to her face.

One day earlier, authorities said, Worthy ransacked a 2009 Honda and a 2010 Nissan parked on the 8100 block of Algon. He has also been charged in a March home invasion on the 2400 block of Hoffnagle Street where a 62-year-old woman awoke to someone asking her for money. The victim walked the suspect to the kitchen and gave him $15, another $10 in quarters, two candlesticks and two bottles of vodka. The woman was not harmed.

Worthy faces a host of charges related to the incidents, including aggravated assault, burglary, robbery, criminal trespass, simple assault and attempted auto theft. He is in custody at the Youth Study Center.
