Several people were injured in violent incidents late Saturday night and Sunday, including a man who was killed in West Philadelphia.

Authorities said a 29-year-old man died shortly after being shot in the head and groin just after 11 a.m. Sunday on the 4000 block of Lancaster Avenue in the Powelton neighborhood.

He is the 77th homicide victim in the city this year, up about 30% compared to 2020, according to police statistics.

An argument turned violent Sunday afternoon in East Germantown, leaving one man shot and another stabbed.

Just before 12:30 p.m., during what investigators describe as a domestic altercation, a 39-year-old man was shot once in the forehead. Officers rushed him to Einstein Medical Center, where he was in critical condition.

The man who allegedly shot him was stabbed five times, including twice in the face, police said. His injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.

Authorities said the man, 42, is being held as a prisoner and charges are expected.

Investigators said a couple who was trying to break up a fight ended up injured early Sunday morning in Overbrook.

A 31-year-old man told police he and his wife saw a group of men and women fighting just after 2 a.m. on the 5500 block of Jefferson Street. When they tried to intervene, the man was punched in the face.

While lying on the ground, he heard loud bangs, which he thought were gunshots, and saw his 42-year-old wife bleeding heavily from her face, according to police.

He helped her into their car in an attempt to drive her to the hospital, and, as he pulled off, a gunman fired two shots into the air, authorities said.

The husband received six stitches to his lip, and there was no word on the woman’s condition.

Officers were called at around 11:45 p.m. Saturday to the corner of Harbison and Torresdale avenues in the Wissinoming section of Northeast Philadelphia for a report of a person with a gun.

They found a 20-year-old man who had been shot in the hip and buttocks. He was transported to Temple University Hospital and is in stable condition.

Detectives believe the shooting may have occurred nearby on the 2000 block of Kennedy Street, where 14 spent 9mm shell casings were recovered.

Two fatal crashes Saturday night in Philly

Two pedestrians were killed Saturday night in separate crashes, authorities said.

In Hunting Park, a man was struck by a vehicle just before midnight on the 4500 block of N. 5th Street. It’s believed the vehicle was heading southbound on 5th near Ansbury Street.

Police said the driver fled the scene but did not provide a description of the vehicle.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His name and age were not released.

Earlier, just before 9:45 p.m., a car hit a 56-year-old woman who was crossing Linden Avenue at Ditman Street in Torresdale. She was transported to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where she died a short time later.

The driver remained at the crash site, and the accident is still under investigation. No charges have been filed.
